And Here it Is!

I promised you a photo and today I went to the photographer I use in town, Radlund Photo. They always make me feel so special, handling these treasures with care and of course saying - "So how long does this take anyway?" I'd be disappointed with anything less.

When I first applied for this competition I sat in the church and looked at the beautiful stained glass they have installed across the front of the worship area. The colors shift from blues to greens to yellows and I used that palette in my own piece and carried it through the weaving.

Here is the space it is planned for - the wall where there is a print of the church. The office does have glass separating it from what the congregation calls The Gathering Space so it is visible as you enter the church.

I'm pleased, but it feels good to get back to my experiments.

  1. Fantastic Ruth! I love the little squares in it and all the hatching. The colors are beautiful and the people are so alive. It is such a happy piece. Congratulations!

  2. Thanks so much Rebecca for your support...when I saw the photo it really was the first view of the piece, especially as I wove it on the vertical plus had to turn it to the back half way on the loom. Awfully happy I didn't loose the joy!

  3. Very lovely; congratulations! It reminds me of CS Lewis' The Great Divorce. Those are angels in the background?

  6. Thank you all. I'm particularly glad the "welcome" feeling comes through since it was one of the important parts to me in the RFP as the church discussed their mission statement.

    1. Thanks, I think they are definitely excited. It's nice to work with a group who's intent is to increase the presence of art in their space. Installation happens in April, I'll post another picture at that point.

  10. I assumed you were finishing it for Easter! It is just an incredible piece of work and I'd love to see it in person to absorb all that amazing color. The church looks like quite an interesting one and your piece will really sing. So proud of you, my friend!

  11. Thanks Deb, they are planning to repaint the wall, then the tapestry will be hung. Finishing sewing the velcro tape on this week so I can put all this to rest.
